Ford is recalling a small number of recent Mustang models for a second time due to a steering issue that may not have been correctly fixed during a previous recall.
The recall affects 332 vehicles from the 2022 and 2023 model years and addresses an improperly calibrated secondary steering torque sensor, which could cause the steering wheel to move unintentionally side-to-side, according to the NHTSA.
Ford first issued a recall for this problem in July, covering 30,735 Mustangs built between September 15, 2022, and April 5, 2023. Dealers were instructed to update the power steering software, but in some cases, the update was applied incorrectly, even though records showed the recall work as completed.
The current recall requires dealerships to upload the correct software using a Ford-specific service tool to ensure the vehicles are properly fixed. So far, Ford reports no crashes or injuries related to the issue.
Affected owners will be notified by mail starting March 31, and the fix will be performed free of charge at dealerships. For more information, owners can contact Ford’s customer service at 866-436-7332. The recall reference number is 25S11.
